Villa Joyosa - Villajoyosa - La Vila Joiosa

Villa Joyosa is located in Alicante province, in the district of Marina Baixa, 32 km northeast of Alicante city and 10 km from Benidorm, and it has more than 34000 inhabitants. A city of great fishing tradition, now includes the chocolate and tourism industries in its economy.



Villajoyosa on the Costa Blanca of Spain is the historical and administrative capital of Marina Baja area. Villa Joyosa has a sandy beach with palm trees and a fishing port. The town is also known by the colors of its typical houses. The sandy beach of 3 kilometers in length is an ideal place to spend the day sunbathing. This beach has been awarded with the European Blue Flag for cleanliness and safety. There is also a good variety of restaurants to eat next to the beach.

The main city celebration is the Moors and Christians Festival which is held from 24 to 31 July (declared of international tourist interest).

How to Get from Alicante to Villa Joyosa

BY CAR: A7 Motorway, 32, km. from Alicante and 8 km. from Benidorm (Villajoyosa exit).

BY COACH: Bus services to Benidorm. There is a regular service of coaches (ALSA)

BY TRAIN: TRAM (small gauge railway)

During the festival, sculptures of papier mache and wood are placed all around the town center. A small café is put next to each sculpture, and these cafes serve as a base from which to watch the festival unfold.
