Discover the richness of the Mediterranean sea life

SCUBA DIVING IN ALICANTE

Alicante province - Costa Blanca is an ideal destination for divers looking for a great family holiday with diving as the their main activity, or for those looking to make just a few dives.

Most Dive Centers are associatted to International Diving Organisations. The most commonly found are: ACUC, FEDAS/CMAS, PADI and SSI.

In case of emergencies, Spain has a good hyperbaric chamber and emergency transportation system. Foreigners are better off by calling the international emergency phone number 112 (also accessible by mobile phone), operators here speak English. In any event, remember to tell them it’s a diving accident.

You must have a Diver's Accident Insurance to dive in Spain. If you do not have one, you can get one in most dive centers. The most popular one is the RDI (Real Divers Insurance), it is valid for a year from the date you purchase it and it is also valid worlwide.

Tabarca Island in Alicante (Mediterranean Sea), is a perfect place for scuba diving . Water temperature varies from around 14 centigrades in the winter to about 24 degrees in the summer. Visibility is usually very good (20 to 25 meters).

Special permits are required to dive in the Tabarca Island reserve, so make your arrangements before hand through one of the Dive centers in the area.

Wreckdiving / Deepdiving

Divers visiting the area, and particularly those well qualified in deeper or technical diving can expect to dive at least 15 wrecks in depths of 50 to 100 metres, and with new sites being uncovered and identified each year, the technical diving in the area just gets better.

You can encounter a great diversity of under water life such as conger, moray eels and grouper in exces of a metre . You can also see ray, barracuda, scorpion fish and octopus. Sometimes even Sunfish, turtles but as always there are a numerous type of colourful smaller fish.

Cave/Cavern Diving

The geological characteristics between Denia and Benidorm have created an area packed with (underwater) caves and caverns of which many are still unexplored.
