Almoradi Alicante, Spain

Almoradi, Alicante Spain

Almoradi is located about 44 km to the South of Alicante, in the comarca of Vega Baja. It is known for its trade, furniture production, agricultural products and services offered. Today, there are more than twenty thousand people living in this part of Alicante province.

The growth it has experienced in recent years, is due mainly to the number of services offered, which attract residents of the municipality and nearby towns. There is a street market on Saturdays where you can find locally produced fruits and vegetables among others.

Almoradí main Festival is on July 30, when ten days of celebrations start, among them, the famous Moors and Christians festival is held. Tens of thousands of people across the region come to join the celebrations.

Almoradi Church

The vast majority of the city, including its major buildings were destroyed by the earthquake of 1829. The city was rebuilt but despite the new construction, it has an interesting architectural heritage such as the San Andres Church (built between 1829 and 1861, The Cortes Theater (built around 1908), the Casino (19th century), or the old Hospital (open in 1930).

A landmark of the city is the Plaza de la Constitucion (also known as El Paseo), bringing together the council, the Church, and its characteristic and centenary ficus trees. Around this square, there are pedestrian streets where you can shop just about everything. All over town there are almost thirty squares and parks, but undoubtedly the real lung of the city is the vast green garden that surrounds it.

The economic activity in Almoradí was focused on agriculture but since 1960 the furniture industry was a big boom due to so many apartments built along the Costa Blanca beaches. Currently, it offers the largest furniture exhibition throughout the Valencian Community.
