In recent years, as the city has grown so has the quantity & quality of its retail outlets.
You will find something for everybody, from international labels to local crafts, in designer stores, department stores and even outdoors.
Locally produced products, of a quality that is internationally recognised, are the most popular purchases.
Of the foods, we recommend the fish and vegetable preserves, olives stuffed with anchovies, chocolates, dates, sugared almonds (peladillas) and nougats (turrones). And of the drinks, the wines, anisettes and fruit liqueurs.
Leather items include clothing for men and women, and the accessories for which Alicante is justly famous, its shoes, bags, wallets, belts, etc.
Alicante Shopping is also famous for its rugs, toys and dolls, as well as for its 100% handcrafted pottery and basketwork items.
Shopping in Alicante is definitely a must. Either if it is for yourself, family or friends, you will find something worth it to take with you.
Shopping in Alicante Area
El Corte Inglés, Spain's giant department store chain is located in av Maisonnave. There you will find just about everything. There is one at each end of the street, they sell different products. One sells household items and have a supermarket area and the other sells mainly fashion products and jewellery.
However don't worry about finding where to buy- it's everywhere! The main shopping streets Rambla de Méndez Núñez and the Avenida Maisonnave, as well as their surrounding streets are the most notorious areas featuring designer clothes and much more.
In this area, there are many department stores and famous brands that stay open until 9.00pm.

Go to El Barrio, Alicante's old quarter, for streets full of small stores. Calle Mayor is a good place to start.
Alicante also has a large mall. The Panoramis Mall is located near the harbour. It is similar to malls found in America, with a large variety of stores. In addition the mall offers a beautiful view of the harbour area.
The biggest street markets are Campoamor, Carolinas, Benalúa y Babel (Thursdays and Saturdays). On Sunday mornings, stamp collectors and antique collectors congregate in the flea market held in the Town Hall square.
The Central Market on Avenida Alfonso el Sabio is not to be missed. It is open from Monday to Friday, 0700 to 1430, and Saturday 0730 to 1500.
During the summer there's a beautiful market on the Explanada de España.
