Alicante Shopping
A
favourite pastime for many tourists & locals

ALICANTE SHOPPING
In recent years, as the city
has grown so has the quantity & quality of its retail outlets. You
will find something for everybody, from international labels to local
crafts, in designer stores, department stores and even outdoors. Locally
produced products, of a quality that is internationally recognised, are
the most popular purchases. Of the foods, we
recommend the fish and vegetable preserves, olives stuffed with
anchovies, chocolates, dates, sugared almonds (peladillas) and nougats
(turrones). And of the drinks, the wines, anisettes and fruit liqueurs. Leather
items include clothing for men and women, and the accessories for which
Alicante is justly famous, its shoes, bags, wallets, belts, etc. Alicante Shopping is also famous for its rugs,
toys and dolls, as well as for its 100% handcrafted pottery and
basketwork items.
Shopping in Alicante is definitely
a must. Either if it is for yourself, family or friends, you will find
something worth it to take with you.

Alicante's old quarter, for streets full of small stores.
Calle Mayor is a good place to start. Alicante also
has a large mall. The Panoramis Mall is located near the harbour. It is
similar to malls found in America, with a large variety of stores. In
addition the mall offers a beautiful view of the
harbour area. The biggest street markets are
Campoamor, Carolinas, Benalúa y Babel (Thursdays and Saturdays). On
Sunday mornings, stamp collectors and antique collectors congregate in
the flea market held in the Town Hall square. The
Central Market on Avenida Alfonso el Sabio is not to be missed. It is
open from Monday to Friday, 0700 to 1430, and Saturday 0730 to 1500. During
the summer there's a beautiful market on the Explanada de España.
